The UUKMA Kalamela is a dazzling celebration of Malayalee arts and culture in the UK, organized by the Union of UK Malayalee Associations (UUKMA) 🌸✨
It’s widely regarded as the largest Indian traditional arts competition outside the subcontinent, drawing over a thousand participants from across the UK.
Held at both regional and national levels, the Kalamela showcases 34+ performing arts events—from classical dance and music to elocution, group songs, and traditional art forms like Thiruvathira, Oppana, and Margamkali. Competitions span six age categories, including Kids, Sub-Juniors, Juniors, Seniors, Super Seniors, and a Common category open to all.
The event is typically completed in a single day, with performances unfolding across multiple stages simultaneously. Participants compete for titles like Kalathilakam and Kalaprathibha, and winners are honoured with certificates, trophies, and special recognitions during a grand closing ceremony.
